Fractions To Go

During the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic I decided to work on an app that would help teach fractions to my kids while they stayed home.  This app consists of various multiple choice questions that range from very basic fractions questions to math equations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The level of difficulty can be configured to the user’s preference.

Crazy Eights

In the summer of 2019 I released the classic game of Crazy Eights, also sometimes known as Uno.  In this game you play against the computer.  There are options to customize the rules as well as other aspects of gameplay. The graphics were again designed by my friend Waseem Bashar.

Quick Strike Clocks

This is an educational game that I released in January 2018.  It contains multiple-choice questions to assist people with learning how to tell time.  The gameplay is customizable so that you can select timed mode on/off, have numbers on the dial, and choose a level.

3D Printing and Painting a Pokemon

IMG_6050My little son wanted me to 3D-print a blue Squirtle for him. I didn’t have blue 3D filament though. He was adamant about blue, LOL. So I decided to paint over the printed white figure including all its other colours. I haven’t painted in years. So here’s my first stab at it, from printing to painting and finally giving it a glossy finish.

I put a Raspberry Pi Zero W inside a PS2 Slim

vZZWvZV

Details:

In June 2017 I decided to revive a non-working Sony Playstation 2 into a “Frankenstein” Playstation containing a Raspberry Pi Zero W micro-computer. This modified PS2 runs the classic console systems (NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, etc.) with RetroPie software. I’ve tried to keep as much of the PS2 hardware as possible. Features include:

  • Allowing you to play on your old tube TV with the Sony proprietary A/V cable (composite out only), just like old days
  • Two USB ports at the front for controllers, keyboards and USB hubs (wireless controllers supported with Bluetooth)
  • A functioning PS2 power LED as well as reset/power combo switch
  • Viewing the Pi Zero W and its status light from inside the PS2’s CD tray

On Reddit, my post about this design reached the top of the Raspberry Pi sub-reddit for the duration of the weekend in which it was posted (see link above).

Snakes and Ladders Go!

This is the board game of Snakes and Ladders, with a lot of extra features.  The graphics were designed by my friend Waseem Bashar. You can play against the computer or a friend.

The snakes will animate and play sound effects when they swallow a player.  Additionally, the players’ characters will walk around the board.

Some customizability options exist.  You can choose your own theme for the game board. There are several characters to choose from, and many more can be unlocked as the player finishes each game. A ‘magic potion’ optional feature allows the player to attack the snake that he/she landed on and remove it from the board, but it can only be used once per game.

This app was released in May 2017.

Go Fish

This is the classic kids’ Go Fish card game, where you play against a set of funny computer opponents. It is an easy-to-learn game with help tips provided throughout.  It was actually based on the Go Fish homebrew app I released for the Playstation Portable (PSP) back in 2007 on custom firmware. I released the iOS/Android version with my graphic designer friend Waseem Bashar in April 2016.

Multiplication Universe

This is a board game that tests a child’s multiplication skills up to the 12x table.  The questions can be timed or not timed, and can be set to a single times table or a difficulty level (a range of times tables).  This is another collaboration with Waseem Bashar who created the graphics.  Released in December 2015.
